This Friday, June 11, we'll be welcoming not one, not two, but three great bands to The New Colossus Sessions with host Brad Wagner. This time, all three hail from across the Atlantic - The Other End from Bergen in Norway, Declan Welsh & The Decadent West from Glasgow, Scotland, and Veps from the capital of Norway, Oslo.
After releasing their stunning self-titled debut EP in 2018, The Other End were quickly snapped up by esteemed independent label Ninja Tune. One listen to the duo's tender and pained, sparse yet atmospheric tunes and it's easy to hear why. Although the pandemic delayed their plans to make it, they're currently at work on their debut full-length. You can hear a little of what to expect at their website.
Mixing catchy and uplifting indie choruses with politically astute (and determinedly left-wing) lyrics, Glasgow's Declan Welsh & The Decadent West are proof that singing about serious subjects can also be fun and entertaining. The four-piece released their debut album, Cheaply Bought, Expensively Sold, in 2019 to deserved critical acclaim, and have just released an awesome new single, "Another One". Hear and find out more here.
Last but not least, Veps (Norwegian for 'wasp') consists of four 17-year-old friends from Oslo, who will be releasing their debut EP, Open The Door, (Kanine Records) on the day of this show. Formed at school when they just 14, their phenomenal indie slackerpop is full of great hooks and downhearted lyrics that are quirky and melancholy to just the right degree. If they're this good at this age, the future better watch out. Listen to them here.
These sessions kick off at 5pm ET, and we look forward to seeing you there!
